I Believe I Can Fly lyrics
Songwriters: Kelly, Robert;
I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meanin' of true love
I'm leanin' on the everlasting arms
If I can see it then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
Songwriters: Kelly, Robert;
I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meanin' of true love
I'm leanin' on the everlasting arms
If I can see it then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
See I was on the verge of breakin' down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me oh
If I can see it then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me runnin' through that open door
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
Hey 'cuz I believe in me
If I can see it then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me runnin' through that open door
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
Hey if I just spread my wings
I can fly
I can fly
I can fly, hey
If I just spread my wings
I can fly
Fly fly fly...

ANALYSIS:
The song is mainly fantasy for it is not possible for a human to fly.
In the first paragraph, the composer was pessimistic about life and thought “it could not go on”, and that “life was nothing but an awful song”. I also used to think that for I was a little child at that time, and thus approached things in a very “childish” manner.
In the next paragraph, the composer becomes optimistic. This is because he believes he could fly, and touch the sky. This was a fantasy for it was not possible to do that in real life. Similar to me, after when I grew older, I began to enjoy life. “I see me running through that open door” means that he could escape from anything and reaching out to accomplish something.
The third paragraph states that the composer was “on the verge of breaking down”, meaning that he could not stand life anymore. “Silence can seem so loud” is an oxymoron for silence is quiet, and yet it was loud. “If I can see it then I can be it” and “If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it” means that anything is possible. The remaining paragraphs is similar to the second one. The composer had a different perspective towards life. He “believes” he “can fly”, which may mean rising to greater heights and be outstanding.
RESPONSE:
If the day looks kinder gloomy
And your chances kinder slim,
If the situation's kinder puzzling
And the prospect's awful grim
Just clench your fists
And grit your teeth
And keep on going on.
And grit your teeth
And keep on going on.
Brooding never wins a fight
And fuming never pays;
There is absolutely no use in being frustrated
In these pessimistic ways
Though hope is diminishing
Just clench your fists
And grit your teeth
And keep on going on.
There is no use in grumbling
And all the time so,
When happy-faces are everywhere
Just keep on smiling cheerfully
If hope is nearly gone,
Just clench your fists
And grit your teeth
And keep on going on.
And grit your teeth
And keep on going on.
Keep on going on...
